WE NEED A SAVIOR

This is Fr. John Tran Kha's homily:

A man said, "My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table."

My wife asked, "Do you know her?"

"Yes," I sighed, "She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since."

"My God!" says my wife, "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?"

And then the fight started.....

I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. "I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please."

He said, "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?"

"Nah, she can order for herself.."

And then the fight started.....

To possess Jesus is to possess love and peace.

Mary and Joseph were at the bottom of life's circumstances. Can you imagine a young couple, expecting their first baby, had to leave their home town behind and went to a faraway place that they were not familiar with. There was no relative and no friends. They could not find a place to rest at night because they were poor. If it happened to any of you today; probably you would blame each other, "I told you to call ahead and make a reservation." "I told you not to go but wait till after the baby is born." "You don't care that I am pregnant and you do not understand how hard it is for me to make this trip." That is us. But Mary and Joseph did not argue with each other. They were united in love because they have Jesus with them. You should remember one time that Mary and Joseph were not at peace. That was the time they lost Jesus when He stayed behind in the Temple. Mary and Joseph worried and went all over the place to look for Jesus in three days.

When they found him, they were happy and at peace again.

God loves the world and the world needs a Savior!

Why did the Son of God become human and lived among us? Because God loves us, and God knows we need a Savior! No other human being can save us. No one else can save the world except Jesus Christ.

Political

Half of people in America are angry at President George Bush. The other half are suspicious and unhappy with the President elect Barrack Hussein Obama. Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested on charges he brazenly conspired to sell or trade President-elect Barack Obama's
vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder as part of what federal prosecutors called a "political corruption crime spree." He was also accused of engaging in pay-to-play politics. May people wonder how much can we trust our politicians?

Economy

When Gasoline was high at $147 a barrel and 4.00 a gallon at the stations, everyone was angry. Now the price of gasoline is down under $40 a barrel and costs only 1.35 a gallon at the station, everyone is worried about the economy.

The Senate passed its $700 billion to rescue the nation's financial services industry. The economic situation, however, hasn't improved. The number of people file for unemployment benefit is getting to the highest level in 24 years. President Bush has announced a loan package
to both GM and Chrysler totaling $17.4 billion to insure that the companies would not go bankrupt. Many investors get hurt by Madoff and BMIS with securities fraud for a massive Ponzi scheme. For years Madoff and BMIS paid "returns" out of funds sent to Madoff and BMIS by new investors, not from existing clients' actual returns on their investments. Over the past two decades, Madoff and BMIS have provided investment services for wealthy clients, institutions, schools, and charities. Madoff's services were marketed as providing steady
double-digit returns even in the most turbulent of markets. It all turns out to be a fraud.

We need a Savior.

The world needs a Savior. And today we and the whole world celebrate the birthday of the Savior. Today we and the Church welcome the Savior into our life.

I really enjoy listening to the song, "Mary Did You Know?" by Mark Lowry. I love to listen to Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd singing this song. Donny Osmond's voice is also very soothing with this song.

Mary, did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
May, did you know when you kiss your little baby; you kiss the face of God?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nation?
Each of the little couplets touches the heart in a wonderful way.

Every year, we look forward to this feast of our salvation. We welcome Christ as our Redeemer.

We recall his humanity, the life he shared with the human race. His divinity helps us answer his call to forgiveness and life so we will become more like him in his divine nature.

We rejoice in the Lord, for our Savior is born to the world.

Merry Christmas!
